The Old Rectory

The Old Rectory, West Derham, Norfolk
Nestled in Norfolk, this private dwelling is steeped in history as the former Rectory to an adjacent Grade I listed medieval church. The project focussed on enriching the heart of the home, with the primary focus being on enhancing the Kitchen and dining areas. Central to the renovation was the extension of the residence, creating an additional room at the rear that seamlessly merges indoor comfort with the serene vistas of the back garden. This new space, designed to overlook the expansive landscape, serves as a vibrant social hub, reflecting a harmonious blend of modern living within a historically significant context.
The architectural expression of the extension features a striking modern gable elevation, elegantly incorporating full-height dark grey powder-coated aluminium windows and a timber-clad soffit. These elements harmoniously complement the existing brick and slate materials, paying homage to the property's heritage while embracing contemporary design principles. Internally, an open-plan Loggia effortlessly integrates living and dining areas, offering flexibility with bi-folding partitions that can separate spaces as needed. A deep overhang provides essential shading, ensuring comfort throughout the seasons. Opening onto a generous patio area, the extension enhances the home's connectivity to its natural surroundings, inviting residents to enjoy al fresco dining and relaxation amidst lush greenery.
