Saint Mary's and All Saints Church

Saint Mary's and All Saints Church, Whitmore
The restoration project at this Grade II listed church focused primarily on addressing significant decay and structural issues, particularly affecting the main tower. Over time, inappropriate surface weathering had caused extensive deterioration, necessitating comprehensive restoration efforts. Key tasks included the complete restoration of the tower, which involved renewing all decaying timbers and replacing the existing render with breathable lime rendered brick infill panels. These measures were crucial not only for structural stability but also for preserving the historic integrity of the building.
In preparation for the addition of additional bells, concealed stainless steel straps were strategically introduced to brace the tower. This structural reinforcement ensures the tower can safely support the increased weight and stresses associated with the bells. Furthermore, the restoration encompassed the meticulous repair and refurbishment of the clock, weathervane, and leaded windows. These elements, integral to the church’s aesthetic and functionality, were carefully restored to their former glory, enhancing both the visual appeal and operational reliability of the tower. By addressing decay, enhancing structural support, and preserving historical features, the restoration project successfully revitalized the Grade II listed church. The thoughtful integration of modern materials and techniques with traditional craftsmanship ensures the longevity and continued significance of this architectural gem within the community.
