Little Hay Farm
Little Hay Farm, Colton, Staffordshire
The Little Hay Farm project is a bespoke residential development nestled within the picturesque Colton Village conservation area. This project showcases our commitment to blending contemporary living with historical preservation, through the creation of ten uniquely designed dwellings. Our involvement encompassed full architectural services, ensuring every detail from initial concept to final execution was meticulously handled. The development is thoughtfully integrated into the former farmyard area, nestled between the Hay Manor farm barns and the existing dwellings of Colton Village. This in-fill development features a harmonious mix of converted barns and new-build homes, reflecting the rich agricultural heritage of the site.
A central feature of the scheme is the sensitive conversion of the existing range of barns. These historical structures have been transformed into modern, comfortable homes, preserving their original character while meeting contemporary living standards. Alongside these conversions, several obsolete outbuildings were cleared to make way for 5No. bespoke new-build homes. These new structures were designed to complement the existing architectural landscape, ensuring a seamless integration with the surrounding buildings. The development comprises two distinct house types, each thoughtfully designed in close consultation with the Planning Authority. This collaborative approach ensured that the designs respect and enhance the local conservation area. The architectural style of the new dwellings draws inspiration from the adjacent barn, mirroring their size, scale, and intricate details. The use of traditional materials further ties the new constructions to their historical context, creating a cohesive and visually appealing environment. At Little Hay Farm, HHA have successfully created a unique residential enclave that respects the past while embracing the future. This project exemplifies our dedication to high-quality, contextually sensitive design, providing a model for modern development within historic settings.
