King Edward VI Canteen

King Edward VI Canteen, Kings Heath, Birmingham
King Edward VI Camp Hill School for Girls approached HHA to address concerns raised by Ofsted regarding limited dining space. The project aimed to enhance the school's facilities with a new Cross-Curricular Teaching accommodation incorporating Dining Room facilities. This involved both a new extension and the remodelling of an existing ICT classroom. The newly designed facility includes dedicated dining space for students opting for packed lunches, complemented by a new servery area offering hot and cold food options. To maximize usability, an external landscaped area features a raised terrace and lawn, facilitating alfresco dining during the summer months and providing additional recreational space.
Internally, the space is versatile, accommodating various teaching activities, especially cross-curricular and large group learning sessions. The design focuses on creating a flexible environment that supports modern educational practices while addressing practical needs identified by the school and educational authorities. The project's architectural approach integrates functionality with aesthetic appeal, ensuring seamless connectivity between the new extension and existing structures. By enhancing both indoor and outdoor environments, the facility not only meets immediate dining and teaching requirements but also contributes to a more engaging and dynamic educational experience for students. In conclusion, the completion of the Cross-Curricular Teaching Facility with Dining Room makes evident HHA’s experience in creating innovative educational spaces that enhance learning outcomes and promote student well-being within a modern school environment.
