Christ Church Wellington

Christ Church Wellington, Shropshire
A comprehensive restoration project for All Saints Church, in Wellington, was undertaken by HHA, addressing the various structural and aesthetic needs of the existing building. The project included re-roofing the entire church, including the tower, and repairing the vestry roof. The vestry was converted into toilet accommodation to enhance the facility's functionality. Additionally, the entire interior of the church was redecorated, and the original cast iron gutters were replaced with powder-coated cast aluminium. Staying within budget was crucial and therefore carefully sourced appropriate replacement materials and paint finishes were specified. To ensure long-term maintenance ease, some original fixing details were adjusted. Throughout the project an open communication with the client and parishioners was maintained, allowing for timely and informed decision-making. Accessibility was a key consideration, and the design process involved the Vicar, the Churchwarden, and parishioners to ensure inclusivity.
A significant challenge encountered was finding an alternative solution for the gutter fixing detail. A larger, lighter cast aluminium gutter was opted for to improve rainwater discharge. This not only solved the immediate issue but also ensured better durability and maintenance. The success of the interior decoration was particularly satisfying, as it significantly uplifted the church’s ambiance. The project's success was evident in the positive feedback from the church and its parishioners. They appreciated the careful execution and the improved aesthetics and functionality of their church. The restoration and repair work were sympathetic to the building’s historical significance, ensuring that it continues to serve the community for future generations. In summary, the project was a blend of meticulous planning, careful material selection, and thoughtful design adjustments, all executed within budget constraints. The positive reception from the church and its parishioners highlighted the project's success and its impact on the community.
