The project involved the restoration of Chillington Hall’s historic octagonal dovecote, a focal point within an 18thcentury service courtyard that includes various outbuildings such as stables, barns, a smithy, malt oven, carriage store, acorn roasting house, pig sties, and potato store. Dating back to circa 1730, the dovecote features high-quality brickwork consistent with the architectural style of the Hall’s south wing, attributed to Francis Smith of Warwick, a notable West Midlands architect. Over time, the original roof structure had deteriorated significantly, leading to its collapse more than 15 years ago, resulting in the loss of the cupola. A lightweight temporary roof was subsequently installed. By the time restoration efforts commenced, only remnants of the original structure remained, including oak cross beams, seven out of eight sash windows, and one round window.
